Hancock, Michigan
Finlandia University: Master Plan
The Master Plan focused on the development of a campus which accommodates movement in inclement weather, improves barrier-free access and promotes interaction between faculty, staff and students. Campus developments should observe the historical approach to build upon the Finnish model of straightforward, informal buildings in a natural setting appropriate to a northern climate. The Master Plan proposed utilization of the new space on the Portage Campus and stressed the opportunities for growth on the original Finlandia Campus. Elements of this plan includes:
  • Vehicular and pedestrian flow
  • Existing building usage/space
  • Program development and visioning
  • Possible building usage/future needs
  • Cost estimating
  • Barrier-free accessibility improvements
  • Parking study
